Tournament Coaching Objectives
Universal Tennis Academy has always had a strong tournament coaching presence and is a huge benefit to our players. It can be an important tool in player development and helps us in guiding both privates and drills. Our main objectives when watching your children compete are:
- Assess mental and match skills to report back to main coach and site coaches along with other specific things to work on.
- Be there to help coach in a potential split set situation.
- Provide a good warm up in the morning (and later in the day if time allows).
Important Things to Keep in Mind for Events
Important Things to Keep in Mind for Events
- It is the player’s responsibility to let coaches know when they are going on court. Players and parents can also send a text to coach with match information if unable to find a coach right away at the facility. Numbers will be on tournament email thread.
- Coaches do not know tournament information ahead of anyone else (match times, rain delays, etc.) but will update plan via tournament email thread as soon as information is available.
- Warm-ups after the morning ARE NOT GUARANTEED. We will make every effort to schedule later warm-ups if courts and staffing allow.
- Coaches are often watching multiple matches at once but will make every effort to be there to help in case of splitting sets.
- If they miss your child’s match in the morning, we will see them in the afternoon. It is impossible to see every point of every match.
- Stay in touch with Coach via text. They will try to introduce themselves, but feel free to approach. They should be wearing UTA gear.
- There is NO SPLIT SET COACHING between 2 actively-enrolled FULL TIME UTA Players. Coaches will make every effort to communicate this circumstance before the match and will talk to players after the match. This also includes if one UTA student is signed up for paid coaching and the other is not.
