UTA has developed junior tennis players into Touring Professionals, NCAA Champions and All-Americans, and National Junior Gold Ball Winners. We have sent over 200 juniors to compete at the Collegiate Level. A few of our students that are former touring pros are Bobby Reynolds, Brian Vahaly, Amanda McDowell, Raian Luchici, Scoville Jenkins, Brett Ross, and Ansley Cargill.
We would like to share with you the UTA Progression System that we will be implementing at UTA Bitsy Grant starting August 1, 2019. At UTA we work with students of various ages, levels, and commitment. This system will help us balance the groups in order to provide a fun and challenging training environment for everyone. We believe this will be a great guideline and goal-setting tool for both parents and students. Our hope is that each student will have personal goals they are working towards to earn his/her way into each group. We desire that the students’ main focus, however, is to continuously improve as a player. Hard work, dedication, discipline, competition and a desire to learn more about the game are some of the key aspects to growing as a player. Additionally, we encourage all players to take responsibility for their development and work on their own game when not attending our drills sessions.
Thanks to UTR (Universal Tennis Rating www.myutr.com), we are now able to track the rating of each player based on the tournaments they have played in. This tool is widely used in college recruiting and allows us to determine the level of each player. We will now be using UTR to determine which group your child should be a part of. If a player has competed in any USTA (United States Tennis Association) event, UTR event, or any other sanctioned event, then the player will automatically have a UTR rating. For the 10 and under age group, UTR does not provide a rating, therefore our guideline will be the USTA state ranking as well as our professional evaluation. As we move towards this implementation, we have added 2 additional groups to ease the transition between some groups. Please see the chart and details below for the specific UTR requirements for each group and let us know if you have any questions.
NOTE:
UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) is only for kids that compete in 12-18s USTA (United States Tennis Association) events, UTR events, or any other sanctioned events. To check your UTR rating please visit www.myutr.com and simply search your name/. 10 and Under: 10 and under kids do not have a UTR rating. A player must first start playing USTA orange dot ball, 60-foot court, tournaments prior to qualifying into the full-court, green dot ball tournaments For more information on 10 & Under USTA tennis tournaments and progression please visit: http://www.southern.usta.com/Juniors/youth_tennis/.
